I am part of a family of six who followed God's call to live on a ship, the Africa Mercy, in order to bring hope and healing to the poor of West Africa. Living here has shaped my character and strengthened my relationship with the LORD. Although my life journey has included excitement, adventure, frustration, monotony, joy, heartache, craziness, mercy, fun, pain, hope, and many other highs and lows, God has always come through for me in the little things and the big things. As I continue serving Jesus I invite you to join me, support me in prayer, and catch up on what is happening in my life from time to time.

My Friends and Family

I come from a family of six. I also have a best friend. I created this page to tell you a bit about them and their impact on my life. For more about my family and our life on the ship, check out my family's blog.

My Parents

My Mom

What to say about my mom? Well, her name is Dara, she is a wonderful woman of God, and she has enough patience to be a mother of four. On top of that, my mom was the nursery teacher for three years. She is homeschooled my brother Xavier when he was in preschool. Now, she is the nursery teacher again. My mom likes to play soccer, scrapbook, and watch movies. Her favorite food is Mexican.

My mom has been one of the most influential people in my life. She has taught me all I need to know about being a woman. She enjoys going places with me. About once a year, we go on a woman's weekend retreat together along with other ladies from the ship. I am very grateful that God has given me the gift of a loving mom.

My Dad

My dad's name is Peter. He has training as a firefighter EMT and worked as one until 2006 when our family joined Mercy Ships. Now, my dad is the Chief Steward on board the Africa Mercy. This means that he manages the departments of the galley, dining room, crew services, hospitality, and stores. For more information on what this actually means, click here. My dad is also on an emergency firefighting team on the ship.

My dad enjoys cooking, baking, reading, trivia games, soccer, country music, and cribbage. My dad's chocolate chip cookies are the best in the world (really, just ask anyone who has tried one). He is a very good leader of both his work department and our family. My dad has shown me what it is to care for other people, be a leader, and take responsibility.

Xavier

This is my little brother Xavier. He is five years old. Xavier likes fire trucks, Lego's, movies, Wii, and snack. I said that Xavier likes fire trucks, but really he likes anything to do with firefighting. His Lego set is a fire station, his favorite movie is Fireman Sam, and he even has his own little set of bunker gear. Xavier's favorite place to visit is my dad's fire locker where the firefighting supplies are kept.

Malachi

Malachi is the clown of the family. He is ten years old and loves to entertain people in any way. Malachi has several unusual party tricks, such as hiding food in his throat (he has no gag reflex), tooting on demand, and making his shoulder blades stick out like little wings. Malachi is very daring and will do almost anything. He likes to climb trees, play outside, and generally monkey around. Malachi's favorite food is macaroni and cheese. He wants to become a stunt double when he grows up so that he can combine his love of acting with his adventurous spirit.

Elijah

Elijah, or Eli as most people call him, is thirteen years old. He loves video games of any kind. He also likes science. Eli has a soft spot for animals and plays with all sorts of insects, lizards, and other creepy crawlies that he finds. Eli is fairly quiet and laid-back, but he can still get loud when he is playing with his brothers!

Iona

I have known Iona for five and a half years. She is my best friend and the only other girl in my class. Iona has helped me to grow closer to God by sharing about her experiences with Him and by living in a way that reveals Christ's love in her. Iona and I have had many fun times together, as well as serious times. Iona is the person that knows me best.

Iona likes to read, hang out, watch movies, hold babies, and occasionally bake or cook. Her favorite food is popcorn. However, Iona is a popcorn purist and only eats it with salt and butter, nothing else. Her best school subject is math, but she is very good at all of the subjects. Iona wants to be a teacher when she graduates because she loves small children.
